North Oaks Health System President/CEO James E. Cathey Jr. announces that
North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital, a short-term, inpatient medical rehabilitation facility, has received
the 2013 Guardian of Excellence AwardSMfrom Press Ganey Associates, Inc. This prestigious award recognizes top-performing
facilities that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile in patient
satisfaction.
Fewer than 5 percent of all Press Ganey clients reach this threshold and
consistently maintain it for the 1-year reporting period. Press Ganey
partners with 10,000+ health care facilities—including more than
one half of all U.S. hospitals—to measure and improve the patient
experience.
“Just as the name of the award implies, our staff and physicians
are the driving force for excellence in our patients’ experiences,
outcomes and international reputation,” shares North Oaks Senior
Vice President/Rehabilitation Hospital Administrator Sybil Paulson. “I
am humbled to accept this award on their behalf.”
“The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award is a symbol of achievement
in the health care industry awarded by the nation’s leader in measuring,
understanding and improving the patient experience,” notes Cathey.
“We are proud to partner with North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital,”
comments Patrick T. Ryan, Press Ganey Chief Executive Officer. “Achieving
this level of excellence reflects the organization’s commitment
to delivering outstanding service and quality. North Oaks Rehabilitation
Hospital’s efforts benefit patients in South Louisiana and will
lead to improved patient experiences.”
North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital also ranks among the top 3 percent of
22,000 facilities worldwide surveyed by the Commission on Accreditation
of Rehabilitation Facilities receiving no recommendations for improvement
in their April 2013 accreditation survey. The hospital offers one of five
CARF-certified Stroke Specialty Programs in Louisiana and the only one
along the I-12 corridor. Patients who may benefit from inpatient rehabilitation
include those with diagnoses of stroke, joint replacement, neurological
disorders, arthritis, amputation, brain injury, cardiac or congenital
conditions, as well as orthopedic or spinal cord injuries.
Rankings and accreditations not withstanding, patient outcomes are a true
measure of North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital’s quality. North Oaks
patients make greater improvements faster in dressing themselves, walking,
climbing stairs, toileting and regaining their memory when compared to
similar patients nationwide, according to the Uniform Data System for
Medical Rehabilitation.
Therapy sessions may take place in a spacious gym, therapeutic garden,
solarium, aquatic center, a laundry room, kitchen or bathroom, as well
as during community outings. To help get ready to return home, patients
and caregivers can practice the skills they’ve learned in a training
apartment that has a full kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom.
