The North Oaks Sports Medicine team has recognized Bailey Lee, Steven Liuzza,
Tyler Pigott and Lauren Thompson as “Student-Athletes of the Month.”
Loranger High School’s Bailey Lee has a 4.0 grade point average (GPA).
She is a guard on the girls’ basketball team and is a “walking
billboard for work ethic and overcoming adversity,”according to
Girls Basketball Coach Sean Shields. She hasn’t missed a drill,
practice or game since recently rebounding from an ACL injury. The high
school senior also helps her family manage Loranger’s Youth Basketball
Program. She is the daughter of Kevin and Cherelle Lee.

Steven Liuzza is an Oak Forest Academy junior with a 4.0 GPA. He is an
infielder/pitcher on the baseball team and started the season batting
.333 with two home runs. He recently propelled his team to victory with
a walk-off grand slam. Head Baseball Coach Tony Salim notes that Lee has
a passion for baseball and does whatever is asked of him during a game.
"He always has an upbeat attitude whether it’s in the weight
room at practice or preparing to play a game,” explains Salim. Steven
is the son of Connie and Chris Liuzza.

Tyler Pigott, a Doyle High School junior, is a left-handed pitcher who
has been instrumental in the baseball team’s success, according
to Head Coach Tim Beatty. He is currently unbeaten in several starts and
has one save. He was recognized last year by the “Perfect Game”
baseball scouting website with an honorable mention. His summer ball team
won the State Championship, and in his freshman year, he was named an
Honorable Mention All-district Player. In the classroom, he has scored
a 3.13 GPA. He is the son of Carol and Brian Pigott.

An Albany High School senior, Lauren Thompson is both a two-time All-parish
and All-district basketball player. She was awarded the All-parish Defensive
Player of the Year honors in 2013. Head Girls Basketball Coach Stacy Darouse
calls Thompson, the team captain, an “exceptional student-athlete
who leads her team on the floor, in the classroom and in all areas of
life.” She has a 3.85 GPA. She is the daughter of Mark and Sharmon Thompson.

From August 2013 to April 2014, North Oaks Sports Medicine staff and North
Oaks Orthopaedic Specialty Center physicians will choose a male and female
from Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes who have a 3.0 grade point average
or higher; excel in athletic competition; participate in school and community
organizations; and have earned the respect of coaches, teammates, officials,
teachers and their peers. In May, they will choose a “Student-Athlete
of the Year” from all the monthly honorees. Nominations are accepted
from coaches, athletic directors and principals.
