The following story was submitted by Orthopaedic/Neurosurgery Unit Charge
Nurse Paige.
“A patient without any personal belongings and an injured arm from
a mechanical accident rode a bicycle to the
Emergency Room
to receive treatment. After receiving treatment, I arranged transportation
for the patient to return home, but we were worried about how the patient
would obtain the medication prescribed. We called Case Management Director
Laura Bass, who arranged to purchase one of the patient’s medications
through the hospital's Crisis Fund, but she could not cover both. When
Orthopedic Surgeon Bryan Dudoussat, MD, of
North Oaks Orthopaedic Specialty Center
learned of this, he graciously handed me the funds to cover the remaining
medication. He never hesitated. He just asked me to make sure the patient
had what was needed for discharge. This was truly heartwarming.”
