Toby Luke LeLeaux Welcomed as Baby New Year 2016 at North Oaks Medical Center

The possibility of having a New Year’s Baby was the furthest thing from Tiffany Glaviana and Dustin LeLeaux’s minds as the Avondale residents prepared for the birth of their son due on Dec. 30, 2015.

Glaviana had her final prenatal checkup the morning of the 30th at Magnolia Obstetrics & Gynecology in Hammond, where she has been a long-time patient. She was already beginning to experience contractions, and was hopeful that the baby would be born that day so he would share a birthday with his “nanny,” Raylyn Bordelon, 24, of Ponchatoula.

As the contractions became more steady throughout the day, Glaviana worked with Magnolia’s Nurse Practitioner Keri Girard to finalize plans to arrive at North Oaks Medical Center at 10 p.m. that night to prepare for delivery. To pass the time until then, a low-key birthday celebration was held for Glaviana’s sister Raylyn at the Hammond home of their parents, Jodi and Riley Bordelon Jr.

More than 26 hours after Glaviana arrived at the hospital, Toby Luke LeLeaux was born into instant celebrity status as North Oaks Medical Center’s first baby of 2016. Delivered by Dr. Deborah Shuman of Magnolia Obstetrics & Gynecology at 12:13 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2016, Toby weighed 8 lbs., 1.3 oz. and was 21¼ inches long.

“He’s a blessing. It was a long day, but family and lots of coffee saw us through,” explains LeLeaux.

“It was like a family reunion,” observes Riley Bordelon in reference to the large party of close-knit family members gathered in the hospital waiting room for news of his grandson’s birth.

“Toby just wanted all the attention,” Glaviana comments. “We are definitely infatuated with him.”

“I can’t wait to teach him how to play baseball,” shares big brother, Dustin LeLeaux Jr., as he carefully cradles his sleeping new sibling in his lap.

Glaviana and LeLeaux met at Winn Dixie Marketplace in River Ridge, where LeLeaux is a manager, when Glaviana transferred there from the former Ponchatoula store. They have been together for 6 years.

“I knew she was 'the one' as soon as I met her,” LeLeaux says of his fiancée, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Southeastern Louisiana University.

When asked what’s next for them, the couple shares that they are looking forward to getting married, Glaviana earning her degree and growing their family. “But after I finish school,” Glaviana asserts with a smile.
