Telemetry Unit Charge Nurse Melanie has received the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award for April 2017.

“I strive to make my patients feel safe and care for,” Melanie shares.

Melanie joined North Oaks in 1994 as a Telemetry Unit Staff Registered Nurse and was promoted to Charge Nurse in 2012.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Dillard University in New Orleans and a master’s degree in Nursing through University of Phoenix, headquartered in Arizona.

Melanie lives in Lacombe with her husband Bernard and attends St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Slidell. The couple has two grown sons, William and Brandon, and a grandson, Owen, who is 2.

Away from work, Melanie loves to travel, entertain and watch comedies.

A 2010 recipient of the Tangipahoa District Nurses Association’s “Top Nurse Award,” Melanie also instructs occasionally with Southeastern Louisiana University’s School of Nursing.

This marks the third time that Melanie has received the Nurse Excellence Award in her 23-year career.

“Melanie ensures that our patients receive the best care possible," affirms Jesse Donahue, clinical nurse manager. "She is the true definition of a patient advocate.”
