SICU Clinical Nurse Manager Christy has received the North Oaks Health
System Leader of the Month Award for December 2017.
Christy worked at the Rehabilitation Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant
in 1997 and a Nurse Tech in 1998. Later that year, she transferred to
the Medical Center’s Intermediate Care Unit as a Staff Registered
Nurse, joining the medical ICU team in 1999. In 2012, she became a Charge
Nurse for the new surgical ICU and was promoted to Clinical Nurse Manager in 2015.
"Making a difficult time more manageable for patients and their families
is my goal," Christy shares.
Inspired by her mother’s career, Christy earned a bachelor’s
degree in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University. While a student,
she performed with the New Orleans Saintsations.
Christy and her husband Joel live in Hammond with their children -- Sophia,
14, and Gunnar, 11 -- and two Labradors.
She is a Certified Acute/Critical Care Knowledge Professional through the
American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and also belongs to the Tangipahoa
District Nurses Association. In 2013, she was recognized as North Oaks’
Nurse Excellence of the Year.
“Christy has been instrumental in establishing Surgical Intensive
Care Unit standards of care," affirms Vice President of Surgical
and Emergency Services Terri Lewis. "She is an excellent critical
care nurse and example of leadership. Physicians respect her input, and
her staff trusts her as their voice.“
