Program Information and Schedule

Orientation:

Orientation begins mid-June. Interns attend 2 days of general hospital orientation followed by 2 days of program orientation with the internship director. Interns will also attend a 3 day MNT orientation before beginning their clinical rotations.

Clinical rotations make up the largest portion of the 52 week program. Rotations are designed to advance in complexity as the year progresses culminating in clinical staff relief. The clinical experience is spread over many rotation sites to allow the intern exposure to different areas of specialty in medical nutrition therapy.

Management rotations are completed primarily at NOMC with shorter experiences at offsite locations. The management experience is completed with a Theme Meal project at NOMC.

Community rotations are spread throughout the 52 week program at a variety of locations.

The program has a 3 week choice rotation block in which the intern can choose a rotation of special interest. The intern is responsible for finding a rotation site and preceptor. The program director will assist the intern in this process as well as provide options for rotation sites. This is a unique opportunity for the intern to pursue supervised practice in their area of interest.

Interns will present three oral reports on topics in each area of the program, clinical, food service management, and community.

Noted Holidays:

  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • 1 Week at Thanksgiving
  • 2 Weeks over Christmas and New Year’s

*The NOMC dietetic internship does not grant credit for prior learning or experience.
