North Oaks Sports Medicine Honors Student-Athletes of the Month for September

North Oaks Sports Medicine is shining the spotlight on Luke Bleakley, Elijah Callahan, Miranda Lobell and Krystal Waddell as "Student-Athletes of the Month" for September.
Krystal Waddell, a Ponchatoula High School junior, is a cheerleader. She is also a member of Student Council, Key Club, and volunteers for Special Olympics each year. Her coach shares that she recently demonstrated her leadership abilities at a charity event on short notice by choreographing stunts, cheering, dancing and tumbling.

St. Thomas Aquinas High School senior Luke Bleakley is a member of both the football and baseball teams. He is the leading receiver for the school with 18 receptions for 380 yards and 9 touchdowns. He is an honor student, and a student leader who was selected as a student ambassador. He is a member of National Honor Society and Beta Club, and has been instrumental in organizing the school’s Campus Ministry’s Light Team.

Elijah Callahan is a senior captain on the Albany High School football team and also plays basketball. His coach describes him as a leader on and off the field with a 3.85 grade point average. As a starting defensive end he has 40 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 2 sacks. As a starting tight end, he has 7 receptions for 149 yards.

Miranda Lobell, a Springfield High School volleyball player who also excels in the classroom, was named Best Hitter at a recent tournament. She has led the team to an 11-3 record, averaging 9.6 kills, 3.4 blocks and 9.1 digs per game. She is a junior with a grade point average of 4.0.

From August to April, North Oaks Sports Medicine staff and North Oaks Orthopaedic Specialty Center doctors will choose a male and a female student-athlete from both Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes as “Student-Athletes of the Month.” Nominations are accepted from coaches, athletic directors and principals. Athletes must:
  • excel in athletic competition
  • have a 3.0 grade point average or higher
  • participate in school/community organizations
  • respect coaches, teammates, officials, teachers and their peers.
In May, North Oaks Sports Medicine Staff will select a “Student-Athlete of the Year” from all monthly honorees.
