For as long as I can remember, I dealt with the symptoms of gluten intolerance.
The signs were all there: lack of energy, mental fogginess, acne, headaches
and unrelenting gut issues.
I didn’t feel great and couldn’t figure out why. I wrote off
some of my problems to hormonal changes and others to life stresses. When
it came to the stomach problems, I was embarrassed to talk to my doctor
about it. I lived a life that involved intestinal gurgling and cramping
after every meal, constant bloating and 4-5 trips to the bathroom in a
day. I took over-the-counter medications to lessen the symptoms and maintain
a functional social life.
On a recent visit to my doctor, I finally confessed all my symptoms. She
connected the dots and diagnosed me with gluten sensitivity. The best
treatment, she said, was to eliminate all forms of gluten from my diet.
The results have been amazing! I’ve gone from being a person who
has an occasional “good day” to feeling great every day. Within
a week of removing gluten from my diet, my skin began to look better,
my concentration improved and my gut issues became non-existent. It’s
taken a complete lifestyle change, but feeling healthy has made it worth it.
