Clinical Practice Facilitator Laura has received the North Oaks Health
System Nurse Excellence Award for June 2019.
In 2008, Laura joined the Operating Room as a Circulator. She became a
Clinical Practice Facilitator specializing in education related to the
care of patients before and after surgery in 2011. “Nursing is all
about touching lives and lives touching yours along the way,” is
a quote by an unknown author that has come to define Laura’s approach
to her job.
One of the most rewarding aspects of nursing is caring for others without
expecting anything in return,” shares Laura.
A graduate of William Carey College in New Orleans, Laura is certified
as a Trauma Nurse and is Secretary for the local chapter of the Association
of periOperative Registered Nurses. She also serves on various North Oaks
professional development-related committees.
Laura lives in Albany with her husband Jason and their children –
William, 15; and Madelyn, 12.
Away from work, Laura travels extensively to dance competitions with Madelyn
and volunteers at North Oaks-sponsored events, including Sports Medicine
Physical Day. Recently, she’s also taken up cookie decorating.
Laura adds, “If I wasn’t a nurse, I would have gone to pastry
school and opened a bakery or coffee shop!”
“Laura is quick to recognize her peers for their accomplishments,"
asserts North Oaks Perioperative Director Susie Edler. "As a respected
advocate for professional development, she recently developed a simulation
program for our staff to practice critical thinking and problem-solving
in scenario-based situations.”
