North Oaks Sports Medicine is shining the spotlight on Gharmaine Ashton,
Tommy Brocato, Jenna Reno and Baylie Stears as “Student-Athletes
of the Month” for August.
Ponchatoula High School Senior Jenna Reno, 17, has a 4.0 GPA. She ranks
as the top runner on the Green Wave's Cross Country team, having placed
in the top 5 overall in the first four meets of the year. She also plays
varsity volleyball.

Tommy Brocato, a 17-year-old senior Track Team member at St. Thomas Aquinas
Regional Catholic High School, has earned two second-place finishes and
one first-place finish in the first three meets of the year. Tommy has
a 3.95 GPA and also belongs to the school's Light Team student ministry.

Junior Baylie Stears, 16, leads the Walker High School volleyball team
as captain, averaging seven kills, six assists and four blocks per game.
She has a 3.87 GPA, and is playing her first year as a setter.

Gharmaine Ashton is a 17-year-old senior student at Springfield High School
with a 3.4 GPA. He belongs to the Bulldog's track, power lifting and
football teams. In the recent Ponchatoula High School Football Jamboree,
Gharmaine rushed for 150 yards on 16 carries for a 9.375 average.

From August to April, North Oaks Sports Medicine staff and North Oaks
Orthopaedic Specialty Center doctors will choose a male and a female student-athlete
from both Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes as “Student-Athletes
of the Month.” Nominations are accepted from coaches, athletic directors
and principals. Athletes must:
- excel in athletic competition
- have a 3.0 grade point average or higher
- participate in school/community organizations
- respect coaches, teammates, officials, teachers and their peers.
In May, North Oaks Sports Medicine Staff will select a “Student-Athlete
of the Year” from all monthly honorees.
